UCI Hosts Virtual Conference to Discuss the Impacts of Cannabis and the Sexual Brain

International researchers to present on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 8 AM PST.

WHO/WHAT: The NIH funded Center of Excellence: Impact of Cannabinoids Across the Lifespan(ICAL) at UCI and Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research journal are co-sponsoring an online virtual symposium entitled Cannabis and the Sexual Brain: How Sex Affects Cannabinoid Activity, which will be held on Wednesday October 13, 2021 (8:00am-12:35pm PST). Male and female animals, including humans, exhibit different responses to cannabis and its intoxicating constituent, THC.

This international symposium will present the available evidence for sexual dimorphisms in the pharmacological properties of THC. The conference will feature internationally renowned researchers who will discuss the evolving impact of cannabinoids across the life span.

“Little is known about cannabinoids impacts on the development of the adolescent brain,” says Daniele Piomelli, PhD, UCI School of Medicine professor of anatomy and neurobiology and co-director of the UCI Center for the Study of Cannabis. “A number of studies give us pause, but much remains to be learned.”

The NIH Center of Excellence ICAL (Impact of Cannabinoids Across the Lifespan)
With support from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), ICAL deploys a vertically integrated strategy to uncover the enduring impact of cannabis at the molecular, synaptic and behavioral levels.

Registration is required to access the free online event.

Individual speaker bios can be viewed on the symposium landing page.
